AKKA’s founder Stephanie Akkaoui Hughes writes another article for the August issue of the Gulf Times. In this article, Stephanie explores how Qatar is encouraging a new type of tourist, one she calls the ‘enlightened tourist’.
After sharing a personal memory of one of her visits to Qatar, Stephanie shares her personal theory that Qatar has at least three interacting forms of culture; a National curated culture, an ‘un-curated’ street culture, and a curated culture of the streets. These three cultural forms make of Doha a ‘cultural Tripolis’, a three dimensional city, made of three intertwined cultural versions.
