With the World Expo 2015 closing last month, food is the latest theme on everyone’s mind. While the primary goal of the World Expo 2015 is bringing to the foreground crucial issues around sustainable nutrition and energy for our and our planet’s futures, the participating countries also see this global event as a chance for international profiling, namely an ‘architectural face off’ as Jacopo Prisco, a London-based journalist describes it in his feature for CNN international.
The many pavilions featured have been for the last six months, the places to raise awareness, think about, discuss and innovate food. These structure not only showcase the architecture of food, but also food in architecture, sometimes figuratively and sometimes even literally by transforming food substances and matters into construction materials.
