Founded by Stephanie Akkaoui Hughes, AKKA is an architecture and design studio specialized in designing spaces that foster creativity, collaboration and learning. AKKA’s core team features over seven nationalities and speaks over eight languages, including English, French, Arabic, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese.
In addition to its own team, AKKA frequently collaborates with various professionals and companies with diverse talents and expertise. Founder and lead architect of AKKA, Stephanie is part of a new breed of young visionary architects, who operate beyond the nowadays restrained realm of architecture. After 5 years practicing at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), Stephanie founded AKKA, to bring to life her vision of Architecting Interaction, where she explores how to create spaces that foster human interactions.
Stephanie is regularly invited to speak at different universities, conferences and summits around Europe, the Gulf and the Middle East. In 2012, Stephanie presented Architecting Interaction at TEDxBelfast and more recently in February 2014 she presented the vision and process of AKKA at the International Interaction Design conference IxDA.
Stephanie is also founder and global coordinator of the Action Labs, a worldwide initiative aiming at building and sustaining local communities of entrepreneurs contributing to a prosperous, just and sustainable civilization. In addition, Stephanie is on the advisory and executive boards of a number of businesses and creative organizations, including the Stimulerings funds Creative Industry in The Netherlands, the Ethical Business Building the Future international forum and Marginalia, a multifaceted inspiration gallery.
